Dennis Turner stands as a transformative figure in the evolving landscape of regulated cannabis—an industry where his leadership, resilience, and vision have set a powerful example for African American entrepreneurs nationwide. As one of the few Black dispensary owners in Washington State, representing a mere five percent of the market, Turner has not only defied odds but has built a model for equity, community, and sustainability in an industry historically shaped by exclusion.
A native of Washington, Turner is a seasoned cannabis entrepreneur whose journey began in medical cannabis—providing compassionate care to patients battling illnesses such as cancer and multiple sclerosis. Through his medical dispensary in Cheney, he became a trusted resource and advocate for the healing potential of cannabis. Despite navigating significant systemic barrier—including the state’s failure to equitably transition medical operators into the recreational system—Turner’s determination never wavered.
His personal and professional journey has been marked by both triumph and tragedy. Following the unjust closure of his medical dispensary, Turner faced a devastating hate crime that claimed his brother’s life and drew national attention. The experience left him in profound grief but also deepened his resolve. Through faith, community, and perseverance, he transformed pain into purpose—emerging as a steadfast advocate for racial justice, social equity, and entrepreneurship within the cannabis industry.
Today, as owner of TMA Capital LLC, Turner continues to shape the industry through his expertise as a Cannabis Community Impact Leader, Regulated Cannabis Expert, and Minority Dispensary Owner. His work centers on creating pathways for sustainability, workforce development, and economic empowerment. Turner is advancing an ambitious vision for a majority Black-owned dispensary model that emphasizes mentorship, equity hiring, and generational wealth-building.
Beyond business, Turner’s impact extends into community service and philanthropy. Through his cannabis marketing company and event space in Spokane, located in an area disproportionately affected by the War on Drugs, he has hosted community-driven initiatives including toy drives, food distributions in partnership with 2nd Harvest Food Bank, and sanitation supply drives during the COVID-19 pandemic. His civic leadership includes serving as a prior trustee and Men’s Chapter member at Bethel AME Church, where he continues to invest in faith-based community renewal.
Turner’s next chapter involves expanding his social equity mission through collaborations with Black-owned dispensaries and the America’s SBDC network to provide free business consulting and support services for minority entrepreneurs. His legacy is rooted in resilience, faith, and an unwavering belief in possibility. As Michelle Obama once said, “History has shown us that courage can be contagious, and hope can take on a life of its own.” Dennis Turner embodies that truth every day—transforming adversity into action and vision into victory.
